Pictures of women in the Biblical era. This gives you an insight of how they dressed, lived day to day, and some tidbits of the Jewish culture.

It was not uncommon for a man to proclaim his love to a maiden. Often, young men would sing to their lady, write a poem, or profess their love for them publicly. If the man was rich, he would shower his beloved with precious gifts and tokens of his affection.

The poor peasants lived a more simplistic lifestyle. Their houses were no larger than one room and all of their furniture, utensils, and clothes were made there in their own home.

In the Biblical era, women could not voice their opinion and they certainly did not hold high occupations. A woman was the house keeper, wife, and mother. They were to cook, clean, birth children, and take care of a household. The women of that time may not have held 'real' jobs, but they certainly worked as hard as any man.

If a family were well off, the women of that household would have their own personal servants that tended to their physical needs such as bathing, dressing, and arranging their hair. The servants were usually female and were entitled to prepare the mistress' clothes, dress them, assist them in bathing, arrange their hair, adorn them, and anything else that the mistress commanded them to do.

Women, being the lesser of the two sexes, were in a sense, servants to men. The man always came first. A woman was in charge to tending the needs of her husband, lord, or master.

Wealthy and noble queens and princesses of the Biblical era were no stranger to adornment. They wore the softest and most delicate of gowns, had their hair arranged in elaborate fashions, and wore as much jewelry as their bodies would allow. Pride was of the essence.

A map of Israel at that time. You will be able to see Taanach, the birth place of Adarah and also Gibeah and Jerusalem.
